BIOGRAPHY

Dr Andrea Doyle is a passionate, motivated and experienced researcher and educationalist, evidenced through 10 peer-reviewed publications, 30 conference presentations, and nine awards for outstanding research and scholarly excellence. She has a background as a Medical Physicist, and her PhD research crossed the sectors of medical physics, simulation and medical education. Dr Doyle joined the RCSI community in March of 2020 as a research officer in the Health Professions Education Centre. She contributed to the challenges in the immediate response to the pandemic both institutionally at RCSI and internationally contributing to two Best Evidence in Medical Education (BEME) reviews, focused on medical education developments in response to the pandemic. In 2021, Dr Doyle transitioned from a research support role to a postdoctoral research position in RCSI SIM and in 2022 she was awarded a highly competitive IRC Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship and became a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow. She has pursed commercialisation and industry engagement through her novel tissue mimicking material developments and she has a network of national and international collaborators. Dr Doyle served on the RCSI Research Ethics Committee (2021-23) and serves as a member of the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) committee. She has represented RCSI on the BEME internationally board, and is currently contributing to the development of educational materials for RCSI roll out of National PPI Ignite workshops. Dr Doyle was awarded an honorary lectureship in 2023, she is the educational lead for point of care ultrasound (PoCUS) in simulation, and has contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a number of schools and departments in RCSI since 2021.

Her research and training in medical physics and healthcare technology uniquely equipped her to work collaboratively with health professionals in multi-disciplinary teams to develop training pathways informed by specific clinical critical competencies and underpinned through the development of anthropomorphic physical simulation devices. Andrea’s research interests are in the areas of medical education and simulation, and the development of best evidence medical education training tools and training programs for continued education and professional development.
