IMPACT AND ENGAGEMENT OVERVIEW

My research has advanced understanding of how breast cancer metastasises to the brain and how metastatic tumours evade therapy. By defining transcriptional and epigenetic programmes, my work has identified new therapeutic targets, DNA repair vulnerabilities, and clinically actionable biomarkers.

This research has delivered open-access datasets, patient-derived biobanks, and advanced disease models now used by international collaborators. Several discoveries have progressed into industry partnerships and clinical evaluation, including blood-based biomarkers and targeted therapeutic strategies for brain metastasis.

I co-lead national precision oncology initiatives that integrate genomic profiling into patient care and support translational trials across Ireland. My work underpins a spin-out company developing brain metastasis-focused therapeutics and has attracted sustained competitive funding from public agencies and industry.

Beyond research, I train early-career scientists, contribute to national and international governance, and engage closely with patient organisations and the public to ensure that research outcomes remain patient-centred and socially relevant.
