RESEARCH OVERVIEW

Gráinne’s research focuses on the epidemiology of drug use. She was the Principal Investigator (PI) on two HRB Awards regarding sustaining increased and improved access to opioid agonist (OAT) treatment during COVID-19, and a record-linkage study on mortality and progression pathways in OAT in Ireland. She is PI on an active Secondary Data Analysis Award from the HRB examining the supply, patterns of use and health burden associated with prescription drugs with potential for misuse in Ireland (2021-2024). Gráinne also received funding by the HRB and the RCSI (Clement Archer Scholars Programme) to assess the potential impact of minimum unit pricing for alcohol in Ireland, and to assess the risk of serious alcohol-medication interactions in older adults. She was also a Collaborator on the HRB Centre for Primary Care Research (Medicines Safety in Primary Care) 2015-2019.

Gráinne has successfully supervised 7 PhD, 1 MSc and 10 MCh students to completion. She is currently supervising 3 Professional Doctorate students.
