BIOGRAPHY

Dr Harriet Wilkinson is a sociologist whose research focuses on reproductive lives, menstruation, gender and health, and gendered social change. Her work uses qualitative, participatory, arts-based and cross-generational methodologies. Harriet completed her PhD at Maynooth University, where her doctoral research was the first qualitative, sociological study of menstruation and menstrual management in Ireland.

She has experience in the delivery of a Research Ireland and Electoral Commission funded project that addresses gender deficits in local government and enhances youth political literacy and democratic engagement.

In July 2026, Harriet joined RCSI as a Postdoctoral Researcher. In this role, she is working with Dr Nicholas Clarke on a project examining HPV vaccine uptake in DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) schools.

Across her research, Harriet is particularly interested in menstruation, reproductive lives, participatory and creative approaches to qualitative research and engaging communities as active contributors to knowledge production.
