TEACHING AND SUPERVISION OVERVIEW

Dr. Jarlath Varley is an experienced educator and academic leader in advanced nursing practice. As Lecturer and Programme Director for the Advanced Practice Nursing programmes at the RCSI School of Nursing & Midwifery, and Programme Lead for all postgraduate nursing registration programmes, he plays a central role in shaping the education and professional development of nurse prescribers and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) in Ireland.

Dr. Varley provides strategic oversight and academic leadership in curriculum design, programme delivery, and student mentorship. His teaching philosophy is grounded in evidence-based practice, clinical relevance, and alignment with national health priorities. He is particularly committed to preparing nurses for expanded roles that deliver person-centred, high-quality, safe care across healthcare settings.

Drawing on his extensive clinical background as a practising Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner in emergency care, he brings a practical and policy-informed perspective to his teaching. His contributions to ANP policy development, role evaluation, and educational innovation have had a lasting impact on advanced practice nursing education in Ireland.
