TEACHING AND SUPERVISION OVERVIEW
Ronan holds a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences with Concurrent Teacher Education from the University of Limerick (UL) and is a fully qualified secondary school teacher in Biology, Chemistry, and Agricultural Science (Irish Teaching Council Registration No. 206130). He also earned a Postgraduate Certificate and Master’s degree in Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship, where his research focused on mentorship and career development among early-career researchers. At UL, Dr. Lordan taught extensively as a Lecturer (Casual) in the Department of Biological Sciences, delivering modules including Genetics and Molecular Biology (BY4008), Equine Genetics (EV4025), Biology 1 (BY4001), and Biology 2 (BY4002). He supervised 33 final-year project (FYP) students in food science and served as module coordinator and lecturer (fixed-term) for Biological Sciences Applied to Nursing & Midwifery 3 (NM4173) in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.
At the University of Pennsylvania, Ronan was a Teaching Instructor of genetics and molecular biology for the Department of Biology alongside Prof. Nancy Bonini and Prof. Kimberley Gallagher. He also served as a Guest Lecturer in the School of Dental Medicine, teaching pharmacotherapeutics and neuropharmacology. Ronan was a long-standing mentor in the ITMAT First Program (2022–2025), a competitive 3-week summer research experience for secondary school students from Ireland and the United States. In 2025, he was appointed Co-Director of ITMAT First with Prof. Carsten Skarke. He has also been a facilitator in the Translational Research Immersion Program (TRIP) for undergraduate students and a mentor to visiting Irish medical students through the UCD Student Summer Research Awards (SSRA).
In addition, he has co-supervised two Master’s students and currently supervises Ph.D. candidates at the University of Limerick (x1) and at RCSI (x1). Ronan contributes to lectures and laboratory practicals within the MPharm (Undergraduate Pharmacy) and BSc Advanced Therapeutic Technologies (ATT) programme, along with providing mentorship to students of the SRS Y3 projects and Y5 thesis studies. He is also an International Citizenship Programme mentor.
