ProfPatrick Redmond
Associate Professor
General Practice
RESEARCH OVERVIEW
Patrick's research asks how cancer can be detected earlier and more safely through primary care: which patients are at highest risk, how symptoms, tests and referral can be organised to shorten the time to diagnosis, and which screening and diagnostic strategies offer value to health systems.
The group's methods include risk prediction modelling, analysis of electronic health records, cluster-randomised trials in general practice, health economic modelling, implementation science and public deliberation. It also has a growing programme on the clinically responsible use of artificial intelligence.
The work draws on two resources: ARQ, a network of general practices for prospective studies, and CRADLE, a longitudinal primary care electronic health record dataset. It is supported by competitive national and European Commission funding, research charities, commissioned work for the HSE, and the group's partnership with Centric Health.
