BIOGRAPHY

I am an Associate Professor in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. My work focuses on applied research in pharmacy and primary care, drawing on health services research and design-led approaches to improve patient experience, outcomes, and the impact of research in practice.

I lead and collaborate on interdisciplinary research addressing complex healthcare challenges and have secured over €20 million in competitive research funding, including €14.75 million as Principal Investigator or Lead Applicant. In 2018, I was awarded a Fulbright Scholar Award (HRB/HealthImpact) to conduct research in health design at Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin.

I am the institutional academic lead for Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) in Research and Engaged Research at RCSI, and academic lead for the RCSI PPI Ignite Network Office. I will take up the role of All-Island Lead of the PPI Ignite Network in March 2026. My research in this area focuses on the methodological integration of PPI across the research lifecycle, including in preclinical and non-clinical research. I also contribute to scholarly and editorial activity in this area and am an Associate Editor of Health Expectations.

I contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across pharmacy, medicine, and other programmes, primarily in senior years. I am the Pharmacy Clinical Champion for the DigiBio programme, contributing to national initiatives that support digital capability and innovation in healthcare practice. I have received national and institutional recognition for teaching excellence, including two National Teaching Hero Awards, two RCSI President’s Teaching Awards, and the 2024 RCSI Alumni Award for innovation and excellence in teaching. In 2020, I was awarded an inaugural Teaching and Learning Research Fellowship by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning.

I am a registered pharmacist and prior to my academic career, I worked in community pharmacy. In 2021–2022 I served part-time as Lead Pharmacist at the Citywest Centralised Vaccination Clinic as part of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme.
