IMPACT AND ENGAGEMENT OVERVIEW

As Academic Director of Admissions, Muirne applies evidence-informed research to support holistic admissions processes. These include introduction of situational judgment testing (SJT) and working with international collaborators to research the fairness, validity, and predictive power of SJTs and other data in ensuring socially accountable participation and selection strategies.

As Deputy Dean for Interprofessionalism and Community Engaged Learning, she leads the co-design and implementation of student-led, interprofessional community-engaged clinics that deliver preventative health services and promote access to care. In both of these roles, Muirne’s work is strategically aligned with UN Sustainability Goals of Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education, and Reduced Inequalities. Activities within this role include Erasmus Plus Blended Intensive Programmes, teaching students across Europe in cultural competence and behavioural change support theory and practice, across six European counties to support them in setting up student led clinics

In recognition of her research leadership, Muirne is an appointed member of the AMEE Research Committee, contributing to global strategic dialogue in medical education scholarship. Professor Spooner is a member of the exam board for the MRCPI General Internal Medicine Clinical exam and convenor of the MRCPI at Beaumont Hospital.  Dr. Spooner also serves as the Educational Lead for the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR), a postgraduate qualification with over 1,000 certified holders and recognition from both the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) and the Irish Society of Interventional Radiology (IRSA).
