BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Eoin O’Neill is a neuroscientist and immunologist whose research focuses on the interplay between neuroinflammation, metabolism, and neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders. He is currently a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and FutureNeuro, investigating the regulatory role of Arginase-2 in neuroinflammation and epilepsy using spatial transcriptomics and advanced imaging approaches. Previously, at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Dr. O’Neill’s postdoctoral work in Professor Kingston Mills’ lab revealed that neonatal Bordetella pertussis infection disrupts blood–brain barrier integrity, inducing chronic neuroinflammation and autism-related behavioural changes. His earlier research in Professor Marina Lynch’s group demonstrated sex-specific metabolic and immune dysfunction in microglia that may underlie sex differences in Alzheimer’s disease pathology. Dr. O’Neill earned his PhD in Neuropharmacology from TCD, where he identified β2-adrenoceptor-mediated immunomodulation as a therapeutic strategy in Parkinson’s disease. His research integrates cellular neuroscience, immunology, and neuropharmacology to uncover molecular drivers of neuroimmune dysfunction and identify novel therapeutic targets.
