BIOGRAPHY

Professor Hamde Nazar is Professor of Pharmacy and Deputy Head of School (Pharmacy Practice) in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences at RCSI, which she joined in 2026.

She supports the Pharmacy Practice team's research development, outputs, and the design and quality of teaching. Prof. Nazar joined RCSI following a decade at Newcastle University, where she was Professor of Pharmacy Education and Primary Care Research and Director of Education for the School of Pharmacy, and where she co-led a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Patient Safety Research Collaborative theme on safer hospital-to-home transitions. Over her career she has secured more than £6 million in competitive research income.

Prof. Nazar registered as a pharmacist after completing an MPharm (Hons) at the University of Portsmouth, later gaining a PgDip in Public Health and Management (University of Brighton) and a PhD in Pharmaceutics (University of Portsmouth). She held academic posts at Portsmouth, Sunderland and Durham before moving to Newcastle University in 2017, where she led the MPharm degree programme and, from 2019, served as Director of Education.

Her research centres on the integration of pharmacy into wider health and social care systems, and on the design and evaluation of interprofessional, student-led clinical education — including piloting Newcastle's Young@Heart student-led clinic. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pharmacy and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and chairs the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Consultant and Advanced Practice Pharmacist Credentialling Committees. She is also a General Pharmaceutical Council Accreditation Panel member, and was previously Honorary Professor at RCSI (2022–2026).
